Rijnborg in its elementOctober 2007 – December 2006 – The container ship Rijnborg was festively launched on June 4. On paper, the ship, which is 176 metres in length and almost 24 metres wide, can carry 1,700 containers. In practical terms, this means that some 1,000 standard containers stacked three high will tower above the deck. De Boer Staal supplied 5,000 tons of sheet steel Grade A, AH36 and DH36 and 1,000 tons of profiles Grade A and AH36 for this ship. De Boer Staal supplied the material on behalf of IHC Holland in Kinderdijk who built the ship. It is the longest ship ever built at IHC Holland. The Rijnborg is built to withstand severe ice formation. The ship will sail mainly in Northern waters, including the routes between Scandinavia and the United States. |
